HI, I’M SAM.
My love for design goes all the way back to when I was a kid, sitting at my parents’ dial-up computer and playing around with Paint and WordArt for hours, simply because I enjoyed creating.
That interest never really went away. Years later, I started building websites for friends for fun. Eventually, businesses started reaching out and something I had always enjoyed naturally grew into SL Design Co.
Today, I combine that lifelong love of design with my interest in social media and strategy. I put a great deal of care into everything I create, making sure every website, post and design has a purpose and feels true to the business behind it.
MY APPROACH TO WORK
My approach is simple: understand the business first, then create what it actually needs. I don’t believe every business needs the same website, the same content plan, or the same online presence. I take the time to understand what you offer, who you serve and what you want people to do when they find you.
I’m naturally thorough and detail-oriented. I care about how everything looks, but I care just as much about whether it makes sense, works properly and feels true to the business behind it. I’m also constantly learning, testing and looking for better ways to do the work.
THE EXPERIENCE BEHIND MY WORK
My professional background is rooted in the restaurant industry. I grew up around restaurants, went on to manage several of them and eventually owned and operated a restaurant with my husband. That experience taught me how businesses operate behind the scenes, how much responsibility business owners carry and how important clear communication and good customer service really are.
It was while managing a restaurant that I built my first website. I’m primarily self-taught, which has meant learning through research, experimentation and hands-on experience. I have used Canva for more than eight years and am Canva certified.
ROOTED IN COMMUNITY
I was born and raised in Saskatchewan and live in a small community, where small businesses and community involvement often go hand in hand. Outside of work, I’m a mom and spend much of my time volunteering, serving on community boards and helping organize local fundraisers.
I understand that small businesses don’t operate like large companies with dedicated marketing departments, unlimited content or extra time to manage every part of their online presence. They’re built on personal relationships, word of mouth and trust within their communities. That understanding shapes the way I approach websites and social media.
What I create should feel genuine to the business, make important information easy to find and help owners communicate clearly with the people they serve.
